ROYAL PALMS, ITHACA - Valentine's Day usually provokes thoughts of flowers, chocolate, and romantic dinners for two. Well, not this year. After a one- year hiatus, the JGSM Rugby Club resurrected its Annual Date Auction in an effort to raise money and play Cupid.

When I was in high school, I bought a necklace at an inexpensive mall store. It was extravagantly beaded, decorated with thousands of turquoise, blue, green, and clear beads, each individually knotted onto dozens of strands of floss. A visual feast. I wore the necklace one summer day, and my friend Beth stopped to comment.

VP: Hey Jeff, How was Spring Break? JG: Relaxing, man. I liked being away from the ho-hum of the regular semester. I am finally beginning to see the sun a lot more, and it looks like the Spring weather is finally in sight. VP: Ditto. We are beginning to see e-mails from the Class of 2010, beginning to prepare for the summer that will be here before we know it.

The roots of General Motors dates back to 1907 when Billy Durant, a high school dropout, became the leading manufacturer of "horseless carriages". Over the next few years, Durant created General Motors Corporation through a series of acquisitions. By 1910 he had placed 25 different companies under the GM umbrella only to continue looking for the next acquisition.

Was it the sea, the visit to the mosque, or the long bus ride preceding? Maybe it was just the wine at dinner that led certain, unnamed individuals (ahem) to miss the next day's visit to Koc University's Graduate School of Business? Even so, a single day liberated is no more sufficient than a small paragraph to review the expansiveness and splendor of Istanbul.
