Big Acts Rock Sage

February brought two notable visitors to the Johnson school, including television, film and theater actor Jimmy Smits and musician Ari Hest. The events, organized by the Media & Entertainment Club, brought an unusual mix of entertainment and education to the student body, creating memorable evenings for all in attendance.

As we stood in the home of famous political pundits James Carville and Mary Matalin, sipping mint juleps, listening to Grammy award winning jazz musician Irvin Mayfield Jr., and holding the winning trophy, we marveled at the events of the past week and the fortuitous circumstances that brought us here.

Puck That

The JGSM women's hockey team, the Frozen Assets, met an unusual match of ladies on the ice at Lynah Rink last month - the Puck Bunnies, a sizable group of rookie JGSM males dressed in drag. Approximately a hundred fans put down the books to attend the Sunday afternoon event and arena buzz suggested that there were few regrets.

Salsa For a Cause

Cornellians gathered at Willard Straight Hall on a snowy Saturday night and salsa-ed, meringue-ed, and Bachata-ed the night away for charity. A sliding scale admitted students and community members of all ages, and every cent of all admissions collected was donated to the Unicef foundation for Haiti relief.

Business is about making money, but there are those special instances when doing good and making money are one and the same. BR Ventures (BRV) has gotten behind one those businesses. Recently, BRV added a ninth company to its portfolio-Adenios. The company addresses a key issue in treating multiple illnesses-controlling the permeability of the blood brain barrier.
